The silver WS-852 from Olympus is a digital voice recorder with two directional microphones positioned at a 90° layout for capturing audio. Recognized for its clear audio quality and superb operability, the WS-852 features the intelligent Auto Mode which automatically adjusts the recording level to match the volume of the sound source.

The digital voice recorder is powered by two AAA dry-cell batteries (model LR03) or two Olympus nickel-metal hydride rechargeable batteries. Some other features include a built-in stand to prevent surface vibrations and a direct USB computer connection to conveniently save your data . The recorder displays only the necessary information in Simple Mode and supports beginners by limiting the functions in the menu to those which are frequently used. When recordings contain multiple speakers, the Voice Balancer makes softer voices louder and ensures that louder voices stay below a given threshold. This provides playback where everyone can be heard clearly.

Although not all digital recorders can play the audiobook MP3 files that I download from my local library, this one can. . . I think it has wonderful sound quality and is simple to use, but I'm not sure how to utilize the special tools because I'm not very good at that sort of thing, but it's perfect for ghost hunting. LOL.

Buttons were easily accessible. Even a child could figure out simple forward operations without consulting the handbook. It's ready to use right out of the box, and it's also little. This is the one to go to for pretty much anything.... Notes, reminders, instructional value for classes, business, or simple reminders for daily use are all examples of vocal notes. This is it!!

This is working great with my Dragon Dictation program, which is why I bought it in the first place. I work as a social worker, and this product has helped me get a lot more done than I could if I had to type everything myself. I used to use the Dragon headset, but this one works MUCH better because it transcribes my speech so much better than the Dragon headset. This is a terrific recorder; all of the Olympus models I've owned have been extremely sturdy and long-lasting. This is ideal for me because I conduct phone consulting and many of my clients want their meetings taped. It features a built-in/self-contained USB port that slips out when you wish to download the audio into your computer, which is an advantage over some of the earlier Olympus devices I've owned. I don't buy any other brand of voice recorder because Olympus is far superior to any other brand I've tried..

This is my second Olympus (I wore the other one out), and I plan to buy another when this one wears out. I know that I can record using my phone. If I'm listening to a conference call on my phone or conferencing on my laptop, this is better and adds versatility - having backup audio is always a nice thing.
