The Aosu V8S Video Doorbell Ultra is Aosu's premium smart video doorbell — a significant step above the V8E SE with a sharper 5MP sensor, triple motion detection, a bundled HomeBase hub for local storage, longer battery life, and the flexibility to power from a battery or hardwire to existing doorbell wiring. Triple detection combines radar, PIR infrared, and AI human recognition to cross-check every alert before notifying you — virtually eliminating false alarms from animals, shadows, and headlights. No — the V8S works in either battery or hardwired mode. In battery mode, install it anywhere with no wiring using the included wall-mount bracket and recharge via USB-C when needed. In hardwired mode, connect it to your existing low-voltage doorbell wiring (8–24V AC) for always-on power without ever recharging. Hardwired installation is straightforward if you are replacing an existing wired doorbell — the same two wires that powered your old doorbell power the V8S.
Do I need a subscription to use it?
No — all features including live view, two-way audio, AI human detection, package detection, motion alerts, one-click video calling, and local MicroSD recording are available without a subscription. A MicroSD card (8–128GB Class 10, sold separately) is needed for local recording. Optional cloud storage plans from Aosu provide remote backup and extended clip retention, but are not required to use the doorbell.
Will the battery last through a Canadian winter?
The V8S's 180-day rated battery life is based on moderate temperature conditions. Cold temperatures reduce lithium battery capacity, so expect shorter intervals between charges during Canadian winters. If your home has existing doorbell wiring, hardwired mode eliminates this concern entirely — the doorbell draws continuous power from your home's wiring regardless of temperature. In battery mode, a sheltered installation under an eave or porch overhang helps maintain performance in cold weather.
Does it work with my existing doorbell chime?
The V8E is a battery-powered wireless doorbell and does not connect to existing wired chime systems. The included wireless chime plugs into any standard power outlet inside the home and rings whenever the doorbell button is pressed. If your home has an existing wired mechanical chime, the V8S will not trigger it — use the included wireless chime instead.
