Key Features
36 Channels and 2,662 Channel Combinations 22 standard FRS channels plus 14 extra channels, combined with 121 CTCSS privacy codes, creates 2,662 unique channel and code combinations — helping you find a clear communication channel away from other radio users in busy areas.
NOAA Weather Alerts with Weather Scan Weather scan automatically locks onto the strongest local NOAA weather channel and sounds an alert when a severe weather warning is issued. For camping, hiking, boating, and outdoor events where weather can change quickly, this feature provides an important safety layer.
eVOX Hands-Free Operation Voice-activated transmission (VOX) activates the radio when you speak — no need to press the PTT button. Three sensitivity levels let you tune the activation threshold to your voice and background noise. Useful when hands are occupied — skiing, cycling, climbing, or cooking at camp.
Dual Power — Rechargeable and Alkaline Ships with NiMH rechargeable battery packs for everyday use. When far from a power source, each radio also accepts 3 x AAA alkaline batteries as a drop-in backup — available at any convenience store or gas station worldwide. No proprietary batteries required.
Hi/Lo Power Settings Switch between high and low transmit power to balance range against battery life. Use low power for close-range communication to extend runtime; switch to high for maximum range when the group spreads out.
Silent Operation Disables all keystroke tones, roger beeps, and call alert sounds for quiet operation — useful in nature settings, hunting, birdwatching, or anywhere you don't want the radio announcing every button press.
Channel Scan and Monitor Mode Channel scan cycles through all channels and stops on active transmissions. Monitor mode lets you listen to a specific channel continuously without holding the PTT — useful for keeping an ear on base camp while going about other tasks.
Backlit LCD Display and Keypad Lock A backlit LCD screen keeps the radio readable in low-light conditions — at camp after dark or inside a dim cabin. Keypad lock prevents accidental channel changes when the radio is in a pocket or bag.
Water-Resistant and Drop-In Chargeable Water-resistant construction handles rain, splashes, and damp conditions. The drop-in desktop charger means no fiddling with cables each evening — just seat the radio in the cradle and it charges overnight ready for the next day.
FRS — No Licence Required in Canada The LXT600 operates on FRS (Family Radio Service) frequencies, which are licence-free for consumer use in Canada and the United States. No licence application, no regulatory paperwork, and no renewal fees — just turn on and talk.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a licence to use these radios in Canada?
No. The Midland LXT600 operates on FRS (Family Radio Service) frequencies, which are licence-exempt for consumer use in Canada under Industry Canada regulations. You can use these radios right out of the box with no registration, no licence application, and no fees. Note that FRS radios operate at low power and are intended for recreational and light-duty use — they are not a substitute for licensed business radio systems.
What range should I realistically expect?
The 30-mile figure represents the absolute maximum under ideal conditions — typically open terrain with no obstructions and ideal atmospheric conditions, such as mountain top to mountain top. In normal use, expect 0.5 to 1 mile in urban environments with buildings, and 1 to 2 miles in open rural settings like campsites, ski hills, and fields. Heavy tree cover, elevation changes, and bad weather further reduce range. For most recreational and family use cases, 1–2 miles is ample — you rarely need the group to be further apart than that.
Can I add a fourth radio later?
Yes. All Midland LXT600 series radios are mutually compatible with each other and with Midland's other FRS and GMRS radios. If you need a fourth radio for a larger group, a standalone LXT600 or any compatible Midland FRS radio will work on the same channels and privacy codes. Contact ITFactory.ca for available options.
What does eVOX do and when should I use it?
eVOX (electronic voice-activated transmission) activates the transmitter automatically when it detects your voice — eliminating the need to press the PTT button. Three sensitivity levels let you tune how loudly you need to speak before the radio activates. eVOX is most useful when your hands are occupied — skiing, cycling, cooking, or climbing — but it can pick up background noise in windy or loud environments, so it works best in quieter settings. In noisy conditions, standard PTT operation is more reliable.
What are privacy codes and do they actually make the channel private?
Privacy codes (CTCSS tones) filter out transmissions from other radio users on the same channel who are using a different code — so you only hear traffic from radios using your matching channel and code combination. They do not encrypt the transmission — anyone with a radio scanning that channel can still hear your voice. Privacy codes reduce nuisance interference and chatter from strangers on busy channels, but are not a security feature. For a group using the same channel and code, they work very well for reducing unwanted background radio traffic.
